Leith's
Self-catering accommodation in
St. Margaret's Hope, Orkney
Welcome to Leith's
Leith's is an attractive stone-built waterfront house looking out over beautiful St Margaret's Hope Bay towards Scapa Flow and Burray island.
Features of the once prosperous tailor's and draper's business known as J. Leith remain in the sympathetic conversion. Today Leith's is quiet and peaceful, yet within easy reach of all village amenities as well as ferry and bus services.
The house promises to be a welcoming and comfortable home for your stay in the Orkney Islands.
About Leith's
The house is behind The Craft Workshop and Loft Gallery, which occupies the separate shop premises facing onto Front Road and is a showcase for many different local crafts including knitwear, pottery and pictures.
You will reach the house door through a private gate at the side of the building. The door opens into an entrance lobby that leads into the spacious and comfortable sitting room still with the original pine-lined walls. Overlooking sheltered St Margaret’s Hope Bay, with its birds, seals and moored boats, the sitting room has a multi-fuel stove that is easy to use – fuel is provided free of charge.
Next door in the well-equipped kitchen the old shop counters are a reminder of the house’s history. Within the large kitchen the dining area provides a relaxed setting for family meals. Orkney offers many local specialties from fresh shellfish and premium beef to traditional beremeal.
Upstairs there are two light and quiet bedrooms that between them sleep 5 people. The double bedroom enjoys superb views over the bay while the second bedroom has three single beds.
Outside there is a secluded paved yard, looking out over the sea – perfect for summer barbecues or a sheltered play area.
